Monica Ashley
Associate Psychotherapist
Monica believes that lasting change is most effective when rooted in self-acceptance rather than self-criticism, and she aims to help individuals view themselves through a lens of curiosity and compassion. Through her degree in neuroscience and experience working in clinical research, Monica gained an appreciation for not only the interplay of mental and physical health, but also for each person’s innate capacity for growth.
As a bi-racial individual from Taiwan, she is mindful of respecting cultural values and understands the importance of navigating conversations with cultural sensitivity. It is her priority for you to feel seen and understood. Monica's therapeutic style is warm and direct, and she takes an integrative approach that draws from psychodynamic, existential, cognitive-behavioral (CBT), and internal family systems (IFS) theories. You will work together to understand how your past may affect your present, uncover thought patterns/beliefs, and explore various parts of yourself. She enjoys working with individuals adjusting to life transitions (e.g. starting college, new job, recent move, recent break up), interpersonal/relationship issues, self-esteem, anxiety/stress, and grief/loss. As a former clinical researcher, she is particularly attuned to the unique stressors of people working in science, healthcare, and academia.
Your sessions together will be a supportive space where you are encouraged to explore anything on your mind. If you are interested in working with her, please reach out to set up a consultation call and see how she can be of help. She looks forward to welcoming you on this journey.
