Alexa has received extensive training in mental health through New York University's Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness master's program. Additionally, she holds a certification in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) from the Medical University of South Carolina.
Alexa’s clinical orientation employs an eclectic approach, integrating various therapeutic modalities such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), CBT, Gestalt Therapy, relational work, and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT). Through IFS/parts work, she focuses on understanding and healing the different parts within you, helping you develop a harmonious relationship with these parts and access your true Self. CBT assists you in identifying and challenging unhelpful thoughts and beliefs that contribute to emotional distress, fostering more adaptive thinking patterns, emotions, and behaviors. She utilizes Gestalt Therapy to explore her clients’ immediate experiences, patterns, and relationships, aiming to increase self-awareness and promote personal growth. Gestalt therapy can help you gain insight into your emotions and behaviors, develop self-acceptance, and foster healthier ways of relating to yourself and others. Relational work focuses on the dynamics of interpersonal relationships and their impact on your well-being. Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) helps you to identify, experience, and process your emotions in a healthy way, fostering emotional healing and resilience.
These modalities fall under a person-centered approach, meaning Alexa acknowledges you as the expert of your own life and believes in your capacity for growth and self-actualization. This collaborative effort ensures she will check in with you every step of the way to confirm that the approach being used is suitable for your specific needs. Having been raised in Mexico City and now based in the United States for the past two decades, Alexa's multicultural background enables her to approach clients with empathy for their diverse cultural and ethnic identities and lived experiences.
Throughout your sessions, Alexa will provide you with techniques to overcome challenging situations, conquer feelings of isolation, understand cultural adaptation and life transitions, navigate relationship obstacles, and cope with symptoms of clinical anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and/or OCD. She believes that therapy should be accessible to all, regardless of whether they have a formal diagnosis.
